It’s been exciting times out at The Village Warralily Shopping Centre in Geelong’s newest Suburb, Armstrong Creek with three food retailers in the centre being voted in the Geelong Advertiser “best of” awards for the Geelong & Bellarine region, up against some tough competition.
Warralily Cockatoo took out best coffee as voted by customers with Sullies Kiosk coming a close third. The spotlight being on these two great cafes, both featuring fresh and local produce to compliment their coffee, has the crowds flocking in. What is more important in daily life than coffee? It is also the most judged and open to interpretation so an award like this is such an honour.
Emma Johnson from Sullies Kiosk stated, “The future of The Village Warralily, is really exciting. It is such a growing base and getting busier all the time”.
Warralily Cockatoo Owner, Ben Jelley said the decision to bring first-rate coffee to a shopping centre in late 2017 was a deliberately unique approach.
“We’d looked at all the shopping centres around, and felt something that often is missing is just a really good coffee,” Mr Jelley said.
Next on the winners list was The Slippery Mackerel for Best Fish and Chips. Another hard to win category as every family has their own special memory involving fish and chips. This award is one to be especially honoured after it was described as “a landslide win” by the Geelong Advertiser.
Located on Barwon Heads Rd, the shopping centre is the perfect location linking Geelong to the Surf Coast and the Bellarine, diners are often pre ordering from work, picking up their dinner on the way and then making the most of daylight savings and dining on the beach.
Owners of The Slippery Mackerel Deborah Brandwood and Mark Mannion have really made the most of being the only fish and chip shop in the area.
Ms Brandwood said “Our food tastes great, we have options for everyone, only use quality ingredients and we haven’t tried to reinvent the wheel. Having Mark and his mum in the fish and chip game for over 90 years collectively helps too.”
